Tips and tricks for choosing and applying the right blush
There's nothing quite like the healthy glow of blush. Like a bronzer, blush will bring warmth and definition to your complexion. However, with such a wide range of colours and textures on the market, what's the right one for you—and where exactly should you apply it?
The ideal blush texture
As with many makeup products, blushes come in a variety of textures. Liquid, cream, powder—all textures are good. Your skin type determines which texture is best for your face.
Dry, mature skin
A cream texture is preferable, as it is generally moisturizing and rich. A cream texture will give your face a luminous/dewy effect.
Normal skin
Powder or liquid textures are perfect for your skin type. Powders give a silky effect without any greasiness, while liquid textures offer a more natural effect with just enough shine.
Combination or oily skin
Powder blush will definitely be your best friend. Powder will give your skin a silky effect and control excess sebum on your face.
The perfect shade to wear
Like lipstick, the question most often asked is: “What shade should I choose?” Makeup is an art form, so the short answer would be to choose the colour that pleases you and makes you feel confident. That said, some shades are more flattering for your skin tone. Here are a few tips:
Very light and fair skin
Rosy and apricot pastel shades are excellent choices. Opt for woody pink if you have a cooler (pinker-looking) undertone. If you have a warm undertone (more yellow in appearance), opt for brown or orange shades.
Medium skin
Long live peach! This is the perfect shade to give just enough warmth and colour to the complexion. Not too warm, not too cool. This shade suits everyone!
Dark and mixed-race skin
Darker colours like plums, coppers and fuchsias will awaken your complexion.
Where do you apply blush according to the shape of your face?
Don't worry. Applying blush isn't rocket science. If you have a rounder face and want to add a little definition, apply your blush horizontally, starting at the top of the cheeks and working toward the temples. If you have a square face and want to soften it, only apply blush to the cheekbones. Also, we suggest you avoid the nose area no matter where you apply your blush. This area naturally has redness, so too much blush there will amplify it.
Now you're better informed about everything related to blush, have fun! Add a dash of colour to your makeup looks with a pretty coral or maybe even a bright fuchsia.
