Protect your skin and makeup from the sun

Let's be honest; a complete beauty routine already takes up some time in your busy schedule. But that doesn't mean you should skip the most important step in your skincare routine: sun protection. For some, just thinking about applying sunscreen seems like too much work, especially when you consider reapplying it every two hours... on top of doing it after makeup. So here are a few tips and tricks that are quick and effective.

According to dermatologists

First of all, keep in mind the suggestions of the skin pros, the dermatologists. They mention the need to use sunscreen with at least 30 SPF protection daily and reapply it every two hours. Moreover, you must not forget to apply the right amount to avoid damage from the sun's rays. You need 1/4 of a teaspoon to cover your face only and 1/2 teaspoon for your face, ears, nape of the neck and neckline. Regardless of the weather or your outings, sunscreen should be part of your daily skincare routine to ensure optimum protection. Sun protection should always be applied after your skincare routine and only after it has had time to penetrate your skin (around 5 to 10 minutes). Also, remember to read your sunscreen product's instructions carefully, as certain formulas have some differences. For example, if you're using a non-water-repellent protection and you're going for a swim, it's important to reapply the product afterwards once your skin is completely dry.

Sun protection in your makeup

Some people may think they don't need a product just to fight the sun because protection is already in their makeup products, such as foundation, blush or bronzer. Yes, that's fine, but you probably won't use the appropriate amount of 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of makeup products on your skin; that would be far too much. Some might say it's better than nothing, but what about reapplying your makeup after 2 hours in the sun? That's why we strongly suggest you use sunscreen to fight the sun’s rays.

How do you keep your makeup looking great?

One of the most common reasons why some people decide not to protect themselves is the fear of ruining their makeup and having to start all over again. You could reuse your sunscreen and apply it over your makeup. But why not opt for other, simpler options? Here are a few of them:

Mattifying mineral powder

There are mineral powders on the market that not only mattify your complexion but also protect it from the sun's rays. Your makeup will remain intact, and it will not slide off thanks to the powder's matte effect. Once again, be generous when applying and read the instructions carefully to ensure proper protection. This type of product is ideal for people with normal to oily skin.

Face mist/makeup mist

Another tip for keeping your makeup on while protecting yourself from the sun is to use a face/makeup mist. This type of product will be moisturizing, refreshing and invigorating all at once. You can also find a mist product to fix your makeup in place while giving sun protection. Remember to be generous when applying. This type of product is perfect for normal to dry skin.

Stick protection

Sunscreen sticks have recently made their way into the world of beauty. These products can be used directly on the face and won't interfere with your makeup. The secret lies in the supple, smooth formula that glides easily over your skin. It really is our favourite in terms of reapplication because you'll be sure to use it all over your face. And best of all, it's suitable for all skin types!

Applying sun protection is not something to be taken lightly. We're all familiar with the negative effects of the sun's rays on our skin, so it's crucial to take a little time to protect yourself, and with our advice, you'll find it easier to select and apply your sun protection products.
