Prolong the wear of your makeup

Nothing is more annoying than spending a good while on your beauty routine, only for it to fade or slide down your face after a few hours. Whether you're planning a long day outdoors in hot, humid weather or simply want your complexion to last past lunch hour, here are a few tips to help your makeup look at its best for longer.

Skin preparation

Basically, well-cleansed and moisturized skin will be more receptive to makeup. This will facilitate the application of all your products. Make sure you respect your skin's needs and don't overload it with too much or too little skincare, thinking it might ruin the hold of your makeup. Adapt your skincare routine to your skin's needs, keeping in mind the changing seasons because your skin may require a few adjustments due to weather conditions where you live.

Makeup base

If you feel that your complexion products (e.g. Foundation, blush, illuminator, etc.) are disappearing or not lasting long enough on your face, you could use a makeup base to apply all over the face after your skincare routine. Simply wait 5 minutes or so for your skincare products to act and penetrate, and then apply your makeup base before your foundation to prolong wear. Make sure you choose this one carefully because, like many other products on the market, bases can be found in various finishes. Some bases will help hold your makeup and improve your skin's texture, which can be beneficial when you want smoother-looking skin.

Eye makeup

If you take the time to do eye makeup, it's important that it lasts and that everyone can admire your work of art. Eye makeup requires more dexterity and attention to detail, which is why it's important to apply a special base that will ensure long-lasting wear and keep your eye products looking vibrant. Here’s a pro tip: for eyes with fine lines and wrinkles, we suggest more moisturizing bases with a silicone finish so that the skin looks healthy and hydrated. Some bases with anti-aging properties and others are tinted to neutralize redness on the eyelid.

Do long-lasting lip products truly exist?

One of the most frequently asked questions is definitely whether lip makeup can be long-lasting. Unfortunately, there's no simple answer. It all comes down to the texture of the products you use. A product with a matte finish will last longer than a lip gloss; however, matte products can still be uncomfortable due to their lack of hydration. You can opt to apply a lip pencil all over your lips and then apply lipstick, which will make the lipstick cling to the pencil's matte texture. That said, in recent years, new products have appeared on cosmetics shelves: lip lacquers. These are applied all over the mouth without closing the lips and left to dry for around 60 seconds, leaving you with pigmented, glossy lips with a long-lasting finish. This type of product will be more noticeable on your mouth, but at least you'll have a plumped-up, long-lasting lip that's still comfortable to wear.

A quick spray and you're done

Once you've finished your beauty routine, we suggest you use a long-lasting makeup spray all over your face. This product will ensure that your makeup penetrates into your skin, diminishing the sometimes too-powdery effect. Your makeup will also stay put for a long period of time. It's important to distinguish between a finishing product and a long-wear product. A finishing mist will give your makeup a more matte or moisturized effect, but nothing more. A long-lasting makeup mist will seal everything in.

Remember that makeup bases are not necessary for every time you want to wear makeup. Use them only when needed. We don’t want to bog down your beauty routine by adding another step; it's about understanding why a makeup base might be beneficial in certain situations. So look out for the keyword "long-lasting" when you're shopping and enjoy looking fabulous from day to evening!
